Wednesday Feb 22, 8:00 PM
Old Town School Of Folk Music
Paseo Jarocho, arrangements of sones jarochos, from southern Veracruz, Mexico, weave together Indigenous-Mexican, Spanish, Arabic, and Afro-Caribbean musical styles to explore shared historical roots of these centuries-old traditions.
Son del Viento Chicago jarocho ensemble collaborates with Aztec conchero dancers, and musicians of the Middle-eastern oud, nuevo flamenco, Mexican huasteca, Venezuelan joropo, Afro-carribean and West African traditions to tell stories of musical diaspora through varied rhythms, melodies, dance and poetic forms.
In the fandango finale, representing the collective gathering around the tarima wooden dance platform, we celebrate the continued growth and strength of the vibrant cultural communities of Chicago.
The show is free, but a suggested donation of $5 would be appreciated by the school to help continue bringing the many shows and activities for the public (us) to enjoy.
If there is enough interest, we can meet for dinner at one of the area restaurants at 6:30. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to chime in. Hope to see you all there!
Love to have ya!
To reserve a seat, call the school at [masked]. Seating is general, so we'll hold a section in the balcony. I hear the sound is better up there. ;D
We will have dinner at the Mediterranean Grill, 4609 N Lincoln Ave. at 6:30 pm. They specialize in Mediterranean, middle eastern and vegetarian dishes. I hope to see you there!
