NOBODY should watch the Oscars alone.
For the second straight year, the Creative Social Club will have an Oscar Night Conversation Salon. There is NO cover charge and there are always great food/drink specials at my regular haunt, The Full Shilling. Last year, I did Oscar Night on the fly and on short notice and we still had a great time. This year, I am announcing in November, because Oscar Night is clearly a must-do for the Creative Social Club, and we do this the Creative Social Club way with a starving artist's budget in mind.
We start at 7 PM with the tail end of the red carpet festivities, and if the trend from last year should continue, we should be able to make it all the way through Best Picture without turning into a pumpkin. The Full Shilling is a Wrigleyville sports bar that is the antithesis of Wrigleyville sports bars; it is a chill, unpretentious, spacious, comfy neighborhood dive bar, regularly drawing audiences from The Metro next door and nearby Joe Schmoes like me (they know me by name). The drinks are cheap but good, there is free popcorn, and the food specials are REDONKULOUS. On Sunday, the food special should be the cheeseburger and tater tots; one of my Happy Hour Institute members called this burger one of the best she has had, and if it is the special, it is a crazy $3 with tots!
Sure, you can spend more money on Oscar Night, but why would you want to? If you insist on spending more, buy a tuxedo or an evening gown and wear it to our Meetup!
