Along with Winston Wolf from Pulp Fiction and Newman from Seinfeld, Henri Boylan is one of the finest "cleaners" in the business. Not many Meetup Groups have a dedicated cleaner to make problems go away, but trust the guy who causes the most messes, Henri's role as Cleaner / Senior Greeter is invaluable to the growth and success of the Creative Social Club. This time, Henri steps out and takes on the role of Event Host for our newest production, Tequila & No Dough Rock Show Combo!
What is Tequila & No Dough Rock Show Combo? Take our Meetup on September 9th and our Meetup on June 22nd, combine the two for an extremely convenient two-stage Meetup on Milwaukee Avenue, and you have Tequila & No Dough Rock Show Combo. Kinda like combining Alien and Predator to make Alien Vs. Predator, but in a good way. You meet Henri at Salud for pre-show drinks and/or appetizers at 7 PM, then head to Double Door for the free five-band rock show opening at 9 PM.
Why should you go to this Meetup? I gotta tell you, Double Door is awesome. I don't know why more Meetup Groups don't take advantage of the occasional free rock shows at Double Door, but we do. We organize Meetups with the starving artist in mind. Sure, many of the bands are emerging or experimental, but Double Door has a sharp taste in music, good acoustics, and the sort of intimate setting that puts you "right there" with the band. You will find many of the bands playing free at Double Door play with a cover charge at other venues in Chicago. For example, Kirkland -- a band we all loved on June 22nd -- performed on June 4th at The Metro. Jack in Space -- which headlines on October 5th -- performed on August 28th at the House of Blues. And a fabulous new band I saw debut at Double Door on May 18th, Fire City Limits, performed on August 22nd at Schuba's.
With the bit of cash you will save on the cover charge at Double Door, you can reallocate it beforehand to a drink or appetizer special at Salud. Hey, these days, every dollar counts! Salud is a relaxed, sophisticated tequila bar that is a short walk to Double Door. We had a great time there on September 22nd.
Be sure to check out the Relevant Links below, including links to the performing bands on the Double Door Web site. Remember the name of any one of the bands as the doorman may ask you which band you are there to see.
