Giddings Plaza
UPDATE, September 2, 2010: The weather forecast calls for 60% chance of precipitation tonight. Rain or shine, we will have a Meetup. This group is like the Postal Service. Since the first part of our Meetup is scheduled for outdoors, call me through the Creative Social Club Google Voice number at [masked] if it is raining cats and dogs. Most likely, we will seek short-term shelter from a storm at Cafe Selmarie, 4729 North Lincoln Avenue, but you never know. By around 9 PM though, we will be at Chicago Brauhaus for liver dumpling soup, hefeweizen, and a chicken dance.
Did you miss "Don't Be Square, Join Us at Lincoln Square" on July 29th? You should not have! We had a good time not only at the Lincoln Square Concert Series, but a blast afterward at the Chicago Brauhaus, 4732 North Lincoln. The food and beers were good, the conversation was lively, and the dancing was hilarious. If you do not believe me, check out the photos on http://meetup.com/u/8sg.
As we head into the final stages of Summer 2010, I want to give you one more chance at enjoying the Lincoln Square Concert Series with its season-ending installment on Thursday, September 2nd, at 6 PM. This time, the featured act is Polkaholics, the music of which is described as "amped-up polka". This band should put us in a fine mood for a chicken dance and whatever "made-up dance" that guy performed for us at Chicago Brauhaus. This is also a great opportunity for you to put forward your best Eva Braun and enjoy the Brauhaus with a fun group after the Polkaholics concert. I really don't think you want to go there by yourself.
(September 2nd is one day after the 71st anniversary of Germany's invasion of Poland, oddly enough. And bear in mind that Oktoberfest actually starts in September -- albeit late September -- in Munich.)
As before, this is the easiest Meetup you can imagine. Got a portable outdoor chair? Bring it this time. Got a few bucks? Try to bring a little more because the Brauhaus is not exactly cheap. Take the CTA Brown Line, drive, or walk to Lincoln Square, specifically Giddings Plaza at 4731 North Lincoln Avenue. We will gather right outside the outdoor patio of Cafe Selmarie (4729 North Lincoln Avenue), to the PERFORMERS' left of the "stage" (see http://bit.ly/9GDbl4).
The Lincoln Square Concert Series is a TERRIFIC free outdoor summer event. Giddings Plaza is big enough to hold a crowd, but small and contained enough so that it still feels INTIMATE. This is no Millennium Park, much less Grant Park. There are kids and families...and good-looking young professionals and creative types. The atmosphere is RELAXED and fun, ideal for socializin', chillin', and people-watchin'. There are vendors to provide concessions and even a farmers' market.
After the concert, we will return to the Chicago Brauhaus, which is directly across from Giddings Plaza.
