I have a few other Meetups in the works, but I wanted to get this next one scheduled and announced right away. This is the easiest Meetup you can imagine. Got a portable outdoor chair? Take it with you. Got a few bucks? Buy a sandwich and drink or bring dough for a bratwurst and beers. Take the CTA Brown Line, drive, or walk to Lincoln Square, specifically Giddings Plaza at 4731 North Lincoln Avenue. Right outside the outdoor patio of Cafe Selmarie (4729 North Lincoln Avenue), to the left of the "stage" (see http://bit.ly/9GDbl4)..., we will gather for the Lincoln Square Concert Series on Thursday, July 29th, at 6 PM.

This is a TERRIFIC free outdoor summer event. Giddings Plaza is big enough to hold a crowd, but small and contained enough so that it still feels INTIMATE. This is no Millennium Park, much less Grant Park. There are kids and families...and good-looking young professionals and creative types. wink The atmosphere is RELAXED and fun, ideal for socializin', chillin', and people-watchin'. There are vendors to provide concessions and even a farmers' market. Henri, Mona, and I went last Thursday with a different Meetup Group and had such a great time, we decided to do this Meetup on July 29th.

Haywood Yards, a blue grass band, is scheduled to perform. When we went last week, I was not excited about seeing Sons of the Never Wrong, a "turbo charged folk" band. But that band blew me away; it reminded me of early Sarah McLachlan while others thought of Indigo Girls. I think Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the Series, has a good feel for entertainment, so it should be a great performance on July 29th.

After the concert, if some of us are so inclined, Lincoln Square has a formidable range of nightspots at which we can continue the evening.

YES YES YES, the Meetup tomorrow (Thursday) evening at Lincoln Square, http://meetup.com/u/8sg, is ON! Everything will proceed as scheduled. It is forecasted to be 84 degrees and sunny, so I will be wearing a purple Northwestern T-shirt and khaki cargo shorts. Out of all my Meetups, this is one where the group simply did not want to break up. We closed down the Chicago Brauhaus and I swear we could have gabbed all night at the Lincoln Square fountain. The dancing was hilarious. Of course, none of this is related to the original content of the Meetup, the Haywood Yards concert. Hope to see everyone again soon!

I had a terrific time, last night! Laura, Kristen, Andrea, it was a pleasure to meet you and welcome you into the group. Thanks, Laura, for dragging me out on the dance floor. Loved it! And as usual, it's always great hanging out with my peeps, Jester, Mona and Tristan. But, alas, we have to say farewell to a really terrific member in Mona, who will be leaving Chicago. We'll miss her in the group, but we got to spend one final event with her, and it was a joy! Great luck to you in Montreal, Mona!

The Creative Social Club (CSC) is the largest multi-disciplinary, eclectic Meetup Group dedicated to the arts in Chicago, organized exclusively to facilitate socializing and the shared enjoyment of life. Comprised of current and aspiring creative professionals, creatively oriented individuals, and enthusiasts of human creativity, the CSC meets regularly to celebrate diverse expressions of the human experience – encompassing visual arts, literary arts, performance arts, and more – while taking advantage of the exceptional social, cultural, and entertainment amenities that Chicago offers as a world-class city. Nearly shut down when its Founder left the group in July 2009, the CSC has grown to over 1,000 members with over 50 Meetups, excellent ratings, and positive reviews.

Although our members include a core of accomplished creative professionals, participation in the Creative Social Club is strongly encouraged for any individuals who have a healthy appreciation for human creativity and enjoy socially and positively engaging other people who share the same passion. Members tend to be smart, sociable, laid back, and happy people. Along with its sister group, the Good Times Institute (GTI), the CSC endeavors to be "well-organized and relaxed", with "fun, friendly, smart people to be around", as described by one of our group reviews. We try to do things just a little differently from other Meetup Groups – more personal, less formal/reverent, unconventional, and innovative/risk-taking. Membership is FREE as Meetup is our labor of love, and we are also cost-conscious in organizing Meetups with starving artists in mind.
