Let's get 2010 off to a fast start with a Meetup in February...

Our first Meetup of 2010 will be the February 5th First Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). All the information you need is here: http://www.mcachicago.... RSVP "Yes", block off your calendar, and buy your ticket for February 5th. Tickets are $16, but if you hurry, you can buy them online now for $11!

After the MCA, I am sure a few of us will wind up at a secondary stop, if you know what I mean. wink

FYI -- apparently if you reserve tickets online they charge you a $2 handling fee (psshaw -- that makes the Big Savings only 3 bucks) so I'll be buying my tickets at the door. But I will be there with bells on!

Hey Henri, I won't be arriving until around 7:30pm, will you guys remain in a group, or be wandering around?

I'll do my best to find you!

Hey, Shaun! I'm sure a lot of us will be in a big group, but I may be roaming. I know there will be, at least, two other meetup groups attending, and I kno people in them. Gotta say "hi!" But Jester should be near the bar, like he said. He'll be wearing a black shirt and jeans.

OK folks , how many of you thought you saw Jester but just weren't sure, so you didn't approach him?

There were 10 - 12 people who gave me the "hey, is that Jester?" look and then continued to walk. We definitely have a plan to do this better for the next time we do First Friday (May 7). I will have details out by Monday. And oh, I counted everyone who RSVPed "Yes" as present. I'm not handing out detention slips this week.

And Henri, I actually looked up AstroGizmos to learn about what Sonja is suggesting. You may want to touch base with her, but I'd like an identifier that EVERYBODY has already. Some white piece of paper creatively (discreetly too would be advisable) affixed to the chest should suffice, and combined with my Office Hour (7:30 - 8:30 PM) at Puck's followed by Jester's Unguided MCA Tour, that should be sufficient at the next First Friday for all Creative Social Club members to find each other.

Hmmm. The event was massive, much MUCH bigger than I expected. I said I would be by the bar, but there were 6 or 7 bars on multiple floors. At 7 PM, I agreed with Member #81 over absinthe that the MCA First Fridays were a truly excellent event, but at around 9 PM, as Member #84 and I were on the ground floor watching the first group of people begin to exit, it occurred to me that 500 "beautiful" people had just congregated at an extraordinary venue and most of these people did not substantively meet a new person outside their tight little social circles. That's sad. :( There was definitely a lot of "see and be seen" going on, which is wonderful, but that does not align with what WE are trying to do, which is MEET UP. Nevertheless, I absolutely loved the vibe of First Friday and I think there is a way we can marry the magic of Meetup with this event, whereby we can have our cake and eat it too. We will do the MAY 7 FIRST FRIDAY as a Meetup and I'll have the email out by Monday.

Wow! There were a lot of people, tonight! As if all of Chicago had no place else to be other than the MCA. I had no idea it would be so full. It was almost impossible to find people. We also hadn't realized they would have multiple make-shift bars set up. We stumbled across a few of you but missed so many more. For future meetups, we will have a definite meeting place established and a mechanism for member recognition in place. As per usual, some of us hung out afterwards at the Signature Room in the Hancock building, where we could really talk. It's usually the best part of the night, where you get to better know the people you meet. I hope this night's miss-steps don't hinder your participation in future events. The next one will be far less chaotic. Hope to see you there.
