Chicago Creative Social Club Pages

The Creative Social Club (CSC) is the largest multi-disciplinary, eclectic Meetup Group dedicated to the arts in Chicago, organized exclusively to facilitate socializing and the shared enjoyment of life. Comprised of current and aspiring creative professionals, creatively oriented individuals, and enthusiasts of human creativity, the CSC meets regularly to celebrate diverse expressions of the human experience – encompassing visual arts, literary arts, performance arts, and more – while taking advantage of the exceptional social, cultural, and entertainment amenities that Chicago offers as a world-class city.

Originally launched as "Chicago Creative Singles" in June 2009, this Meetup Group was scheduled to be shut down at the end of July 2009 after its Founder left the group (see notice from Meetup.com at the bottom), but was instead reorganized and repositioned as the Creative Social Club. In two years under a new Organizer, membership in the CSC has grown more than 10x to over 1,000 members, we enjoy well-attended Meetups at a rate of more than two Meetups per month, and our Meetups have generated consistently excellent ratings and positive reviews.

The CSC is targeted toward professional and amateur actors, actresses, and presenters; film, broadcast, and theater producers, directors, and other creative talent; writers, bloggers, artists, photographers, videographers, cinematographers, musicians, audio engineers, and disc jockeys; marketing, public relations, and advertising wizards; traditional, new, and social media gurus; event organizers, entrepreneurs, food and fashion experts, editors, publishers, agents, architects, and designers and performers of every single imaginable type. Although our members include a core of accomplished creative professionals, participation in the CSC is strongly encouraged for any individuals who have a healthy appreciation for human creativity and enjoy socially and positively engaging other people who share the same passion.

Along with its sister group, the Good Times Institute (GTI), the Creative Social Club endeavors to be "well-organized and relaxed", with "fun, friendly, smart people to be around", as described by one of our group reviews. We try to do things just a little differently from other Meetup Groups – more personal, less formal/reverent, unconventional, and innovative/risk-taking. Membership is FREE as Meetup is our labor of love, and we are also cost-conscious in organizing Meetups with starving artists in mind. Through the CSC, you not only meet interesting, creative people, but also enjoy great content and venues. Meetups include but are not limited to:

  • Airing of Grievances: our annual Orgy of Complaint served up each Festivus Season
  • Art Gallery Crawls and Open Houses: group visits to the many art gallery receptions and open houses that regularly take place throughout Chicago
  • Art Museum Visits: group outings to the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Chicago Cultural Center, Loyola University Museum of Art, and other venues
  • Artist Networking: group participation in artist networking events such as Chicago Artists Resource programs and Institute for Arts Entrepreneurship workshops
  • Brunch and a Movie: dinner and a movie, except with brunch instead of the movie, taking advantage of reduced-priced movie tickets during weekend mornings
  • Burrito & No Dough Rock Show Combos: giant burritos and no-cover-charge rock shows in West Town
  • Conversation Salons: casual gatherings with moderated conversation on an intellectually stimulating range of creative topics
  • Full Moon Fire Jams: warm-weather outdoor pyrotechnic parties near Foster Beach
  • Group Learning Events: participation in creative education programs such as the CONNECT Graphic Design Conference and Learnapalooza
  • Member Showcases: group outings to exhibits, productions, or performances of fellow CSC members
  • Old Town School of Folk Music Concerts: cool concerts on a variety of musical genres in Lincoln Square
  • Poetry, Shots, and Beers: shots and beers except with poetry readings
  • Project Summerdance: summer dance parties in Grant Park; 2011 was FAIL, so look for us to hit this one hard in 2012
  • Weird Shit: strange Meetups and non-Meetups
  • Ad Hoc Meetups: group outings to other outstanding events and venues that Chicago has to offer, seemingly similar to ones organized by Chicago's other excellent Meetup Groups, but always with the CSC's creative twist wink

Our motto is "Be Creative. Be Social". If you are worried that you are not creative enough to join, just be more social. And remember: Membership in the CSC is free, but you only enjoy its full benefits if you participate.
